Acupuncture & Dry Needling

Why choose Acupuncture for pain management?

Pain medication often has side effects, our clinic is unique, offering a Traditional Acupuncture, Medical Acupuncture and Electro-Acupuncture. These modalities can be used as an integrated treatment approach for conditions such as, low back pain, osteoarthritis of the knee joint and  headaches/migraines.

What is Acupuncture?

Traditional Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin needles through a person’s skin at specific points usually for 25-30 minutes, as it stimulates the brain and spinal cord to produce our bodies natural pain-relieving chemicals, endorphins. Many other chemicals are also released including; melatonin to promote sleep and serotonin to promote wellbeing. Point selection is determined by the clinician based upon the assessment and cause of the imbalance. We are one of the few clinics to also offer Medical Acupuncture, known as ‘Dry Needling’, this involves inserting the acupuncture needle into taut bands of muscle , called ‘Trigger Points’ to alleviate muscular tension.

How does the treatment work ?

Acupuncture enhances our bodies ability to self-repair, as it stimulates the brain and spinal cord to produce our bodies natural pain-relieving chemicals, called endorphins. Many other chemicals are also released including; melatonin, which promotes sleep and serotonin to promote wellbeing. At Physio2Live, Colchester we use it along with other treatment and its highly effective at managing pain, reducing tension and is used for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
